The reason he was stuck in one spot is because due to the lack of space in his cage, lack of toys and lack of perches he spent most of his day in one spot. He had spent 16 years in a cage that was not suitable for even a canary. It was a little over 5 years ago when I personally came across my first neglected bird. With time, patience and proper vet care, we do allow our birds to be placed up for adoption. Of course birds with none of these are always welcome too. We gladly take in birds with plucking issues, screaming issues or any other type of medical or behavioral issue. We are a safe haven for birds and parrots of all sizes. ![]() We are on the New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife's list of recommended avian rescues. and 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity, parrot and bird rescue located in Woodbridge New Jersey. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.We are a registered, NJ non-profit corp. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? Adoptions are approved at the sole discretion of A Helping Wing and its appointed representatives. * Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be able to adopt one of our parrots. Adoption Fees are always negotiable and cages are generally not included. Specific fees are only discussed once a suitable and potential match is determined. Adoption fees vary depending on the size of the bird and many other factors. * Although there is no application fee, there is an adoption fee. Sometimes the bird you are interested in has no interest in you, but we will work with you to find a bird with whom you have a great connection. We also always adopt to the best candidate regardless of the order which applications are received, or visits completed. ![]() We require an in-home visit prior to, and after each adoption. ![]() * We do not allow same day adoptions - a minimum of 3 visits are required to ensure an optimal match. * Once we receive a completed application, a representative from A Helping Wing will be in touch to answer all questions and discuss setting up an initial visit. ***The adoption application must be completed by someone over the age of 18 years old, and by the person who will be considered the bird's primary caretaker, even if the bird is meant to be a "family pet."
